On 31st March 2012 i.e, on Saturday from 8:30PM to 9:30PM, the Earth hour will be held. You people might be very eager to know what it is all about and why is this held? Let me take this opportunity to explain you what is this about.
Earth Hour is just a fun event where people turn off their lights for 1 hour (60 minutes) from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM local time. It is just a voluntary movement and celebrated across the world annually. Earth Hour is not a protest at all, i cay say it is more likely a celebration or a party. More than 18 billion people across the globe participate in this movement.
History: This event was first begun in Sydney, Australia in the year 2007. The motto of this event was to show that people have a strong desire on the climatic change that's happening. In the very first event itself, there were more than 2 million participants who gave a great support. It was started in one city and now this event has been recognised has a global event (more than 135 countries participate). It just started with an idea, it became a symbol, became a movement.
Now this has taken a good shape. Earlier it was the individuals who showed interest and promoted this event. Now even businesses and governments around the globe have started to show their interest on this event and they are encouraged to take +ve actions for the environment, and to celebrate their commitment towards the planet by switching off their lights for the designated 60 minutes.
