Here I’m gonna talk about the Oscar award, it is an academy award of small gold statue awarded annually in the United States by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for outstanding achievements in films.
New Zealand had entered for nomination at the Oscars for the first time ever for Best Foreign Language Film. The country’s “The Orator” has been selected among the 63 entrants vying for an Academy Award.
The nation has never entered the Oscar race before, but director Tusi Tamasese’s film is among submissions for the 2012 Oscars. Also up for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category at the 84th Academy Awards are movies from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chile, China, Denmark, Georgia, Iceland, India, Morocco, Peru and the Slovak Republic.
One of the more disappointing aspects of having 10 Best Picture nominees but no results for the lone director nominee. On rare occasions a director will get nominated without his/her film getting nominated in Best Picture.
When ten nominees in Best Picture and only five in Best Director over the past two years that scenario was virtually impossible. In fact, the last director to get nominated in such a scenario was Julian Schnabel at the 2008 ceremony.
This year, there are no female contenders this year in the category. Steven Spielberg and War Horse look like more and more of an Oscar champion every day. This year lies the first chance for a lone director nomination.
I think Woody Allen and Clint Eastwood are two of the most beloved directors ever. But this time Terrence Malick has the best chance to get nominated as lone director for his latest film, The Tree of Life, is a love it or hate type of film.
Five Films is going to be selected for the nomination and this will be announced on 24 January 2011. We have to wait till January to know selected nominees for the Oscar Award.
